What to Expect During the Evaluation Process

  • Initial Interview

    60-90 MINUTES

    The psychologist meets with you/your child to gain critical backgound information. Depending on the age of a child, they may also participate in part of this initial interview process.

  • Face-to-Face Testing.

    NUMBER OF SESSIONS DEPENDS ON SPECIFIC CLIENT NEEDS

    (each session typically takes 2-3 hours)

    The psychologist administers a battery of standardized assessments designed to answer your questions. Depending on the referral question, cognitive (IQ), executive functioning, academic, and/ or social-emotional tests are administered.

  • Observations

    (OPTIONAL)

    Behavioral observations outside of the clinic, especially in schools, provide a rich perspecive on your child's functioning in their real day-to-day environment. These observations often reveal what may be geting in the way of school success and inform school-based recommendations.

  • Report + Feedback Session.

    60-90 MINUTES

    The results of the assessment are finalized into a comprehensive report with recommendations for home, school/work, and treatment. The psychologist meets with you to clearly explain the takeaways.

  • Advocacy & Support Beyond the Clinic.

    (OPTIONAL)

    Now that you have your/your child's needs identified and recommendations for how to serve them, you may want extra help securing these services and supports at school. We are passionate about bridging the gap between settings and can help you advocate beyond our clinic at IEPs, Regional Center, etc.
