Empirically-Driven Treatment
Our providers are versatile to adapt to your or your child’s needs. We work primarily with children and their parents to support them from evidenced-based models.
Taylor Shirkey offers short-term counseling focused on celebrating your child’s unique strengths and neurodiversity. These sessions aim to provide empowering psychoeducation and practical tools to support your child in navigating everyday challenges.
Sarah Smead offers short-term counseling focused on further exploring neurodivergence as well as supporting anxiety concerns. She specializes in working with teens and adults (ages 15 and up). These sessions aim to provide space for this exploration as well as to provide tools for navigating stress points. She also specializes in supporting skills needed for transitioning to post-secondary education and college.
Therapy typically begins with a 60-90-minute intake session that involves both parents and children (For Taylor, if the child is 12 or older).
Following the intake, 5 therapy sessions are provided, focusing on collaborative discussion and equipping parents with resources to support their child’s growth and development.
Frequently Asked Questions: Counseling
-
While we may use some traditional tools, our approach is primarily neuroaffirming. This means we aren't trying to "fix" your neurodivergence to make you act "normal." Instead, we focus on identifying sensory triggers, managing burnout, and unlearning the shame associated with masking.

We can provide practical strategies for managing the executive functioning demands (bills, chores, homework, schedules, etc.) that take your specific brain-wiring into account, rather than suggesting "one-size-fits-all" neurotypical organizational tips that rarely work for ADHD/Autistic brains.
-
Because we focus on short-term, goal-oriented counseling, sessions are typically scheduled weekly or bi-weekly based on the individual’s immediate needs and treatment plan.
